Tachograph becomes mandatory for vans

Tachographs are already mandatory for trucks, and from 1 July 2026, vans with a weight greater than 2.5 tonnes will be required to register their driving and rest times with a smart tachograph as well. This is a direct consequence of the 2019 "Mobility Package" drawn up at European level. The intention is to promote fair competition, improve conditions for drivers, and increase safety on the road. The introduction of the requirement to retrofit vans with a tachograph was initially planned for 1 January 2024, but was pushed back several times. Private vehicles will not be covered by the new regulations.
